How to Prepare for Shed Removal Day
To prepare for shed removal day, empty the shed completely, disconnect any power or water, unlock gates and clear a route wide enough for a wheelbarrow, move cars off the drive, keep pets and children indoors, and flag anything you want kept rather than disposed of.
Most removals run smoothly. The ones that overrun almost always do so for reasons that were fixable the day before. Here is the checklist we send customers once a booking is confirmed.
Last updated:
The night before
- Empty anything you want to keep — tools, bikes, pots, garden chemicals
- Set aside hazardous items separately and tell us about them
- Unplug and isolate any power supply running to the shed at the consumer unit
- Disconnect water butts, hosepipes and guttering downpipes
- Clear the carry route: bins, bikes, planters, children's toys
Access and parking
The van needs to get as close as legally possible. If you are on a permit street, a controlled parking zone, or a road with a narrow entrance, tell us in advance — a suspended bay or a visitor permit takes days to arrange, not hours.
Unlock side gates before the crew arrives and check the gate width. Anything under 750mm means panels have to be broken down smaller on site, which adds time.
On the day
- Keep pets and children indoors while dismantling is in progress
- Expect noise: breaking down timber and metal is not quiet work
- Point out boundary lines, buried cables, irrigation and neighbour's fencing
- Confirm whether the base is staying or going before work starts
What the ground looks like afterwards
Expect a pale, compacted rectangle. Grass will not have grown under the shed and the soil will be dry and depleted. We sweep the area and magnet-sweep for nails and screws as standard.
If you plan to turf or plant, fork the ground over, add topsoil or compost, and give it a few weeks. If you plan a new building, the existing base is often reusable once inspected for cracks and level.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be home during the removal?
Not always. If we have clear access, a way to confirm the job is complete, and agreed instructions on the base, many removals happen while customers are at work.
How much notice do you need?
We ask for a minimum of five days' lead time on all bookings so the crew, vehicle and disposal slot can be arranged properly.
